General Info
Welcome to 16U - 18U and Durango High School Hockey!
High school aged hockey is a collaborative effort between Durango Area Youth Hockey Association (DAYHA, and this website) and Durango 9-R Schools. Although it is a collaborative effort, programming is divided into 2 distinct "seasons;" pre-season and regular season. Each season has its own registration and registration fees are likely different.

Neck Laceration Protection Requirement:
All player must wear approved neck guards/laceration protection for all on-ice activities including all practices and games. Players will not be allowed on the ice without neck guards!
Ages
High School players are typically 15 -19 years old.
If your player is younger than 15 they should continue to play on their age appropriate co-ed team.
When
Pre Season: Early October thru Early November.
Regular season: Mid November through Mid February. Playoffs run Mid February through March.

USA Hockey Numbers REQUIRED for all players.
SafeSport Certification REQUIRED for 2008 & Older Birth Years.

Players are expected to pay for room, board, and any additional travel expenses.

Regular Season - Durango Demons
Regular Season Dates:
Nov 10, 2025 - Feb 15, 2026
Playoffs immediately following and conclude around 2nd week of March 2025.
Regular season requires a registration through DAYHA as well as through Durango 9-R Athletics.
Regular Season Practices
Mondays: 6:00 - 7:20am
Wednesdays & Thursdays: 6:00 - 7:20am
Goalies Only: Tuesdays 5:45 - 6:45pm

All home games will be played at Chapman Hill Ice Rink

Away games are played throughout Colorado.
EQUIPMENT
USAH requires neck guards for all player starting 8/1/2024.
Mouth guards are required at all times on the ice.

Black helmet
black breezers/pants
Regular Season Jerseys
All jerseys are provided and expected to be returned at the end of the season.
Players purchase game socks (home & away) for $52/set.
Regular Season Extra Costs
Players are expected to pay for their meals and any additional apparel they would like to purchase.

16U & 18U SPRING (POST - SEASON)
SPRING Season Dates:
TBD (Last Year: March 3, 2025 - April 9, 2025)
USA Hockey Numbers REQUIRED for all players.
SafeSport Certification REQUIRED for 2008 & Older Birth Years.
SPRING Practices
Last Year: March 3rd until April 9th
Days and times vary. Mostly 8:15pm or 9pm start. Mon, Tue, Wed or Thur.
2 skates/week.
SPRING Tournaments
TBD
An additional $150/player tournament fee is required.
SPRING Extra Costs
Players are expected to contribute to tournament fees (approx. $150/tournament/player) and pay for room, meals, and any additional travel expenses.
SPRING Game Jerseys
There is a chance players will need to purchase a game jersey. We are looking into the details.
Otherwise, all jerseys and socks are provided. Return at the end of Spring Season or last tournament; whichever comes last.

- Use age-appropriate USA Hockey Age Classifications for 2025-26 when registering

USA Hockey Membership Number Required to register.
Please note, if you are a 2008 birth year or earlier, you will be required to take the SafeSport Core Training or Refresher Course prior to participation for the 2025-26 season.
